During this experiment, approximately thirteen hours were spent downtown. During this time, my roommates and I spent about $30 each on drinks. In total, we learned the names of three men, Todd, Dylan, and Scott. In thirteen hours of posting a profile on OkCupid.com, Paige received 27 messages. Within almost all of these messages' content was the name of the person contacting her and something personal. From this experiment you are able to see that men are less afraid to approach women when their faces' are hidden behind a computer screen. They are more confident in disclosing personal information to complete strangers.
This ties into my paper for multiple reasons. First, and the most obvious, is first hand experiencing how to online date. Second is I was able to personally grasp a reason on why online dating may appeal to people. For starters, it is certainly cheaper than going out on a Friday or Saturday night in downtown Athens. Also, it is easy. You virtually have to do nothing besides make a profile and people will tell you more about themselves then you probably ever wanted to know.
